Well, here it is September 2023 and we are a little behind the calendar already. Mister Slim has been busy elsewhere and I have not had time to update this site. But I wanted to drop a quick word to say that there are definitely some great coupon deals you can look for in 2023. Retailers took a big hit in sales in December 2014, and they did poorly in 2015 and 2016 as well, which always means there is plenty of left-over merchandise they will need to move.
This is not the time to be expecting a lot of coupons for retail merchandise. You want to look for clearance sales and keep an eye out for inventory that moves to discount retailers like Big Lots as they pick up surplus items and mark down the prices.
But for coupon deals we have seen a lot of activity in the fast food market. Burger King and Taco Bell, for example, have introduced new menu items and they hit the mailboxes with a lot of coupon promotions in early September. So 2023 should be a pretty good year for coupons and discounts.
Looking ahead, we think that inflation will be almost non-existent thanks to the oil industry price war. As Saudi Arabia tries to squeeze American oil producers out of the market they have allowed the price of crude oil to drop to less than half what it was a few months ago. That translates into lower energy costs for manufacturing and lower fuel costs for distributing; hence, consumers will see either no change in consumable goods prices in 2023 or you may even see some prices drop.
But retailers may not pass on all their savings to consumers. In that case, you want to keep an eye out for special retail offers such as discounts for signing up for emails, member club discounts, and more. If you organize your purchases carefully you may spend considerably less money in 2023 than you did in 2016 and 2017.
